Specialized Chisel Fully Check

The new Specialized Chisel Fully is the consistent counter-design to what Specialized usually does. Normally, the Americans focus primarily on the high-end segment. But because the Chisel aluminum hardtail is so successful, Specialized has now added an aluminum tour fully.

Although the Specialized Chisel has 120 mm of travel in the fork like the Epic Carbon, the geometry is entirely different. The seating position is a bit more upright. And with a reach of 470 mm in the L size, the Chisel is also 10 mm shorter than its carbon counterpart. Specialized aims to appeal more to trail riders and less to racers with this design. This is clearly reflected in the geometry, which is slightly less extreme across its 5 frame sizes than what you’d expect from the top models.

Those looking for an absolute lightweight bike will have to dig deeper into their pockets. But with a weight around 13 kg, the Chisel fullys remain in the green zone for touring riders. The Chisel Comp stands out mainly due to its well-designed geometry and a good braking system compared to its market counterparts. In the affordable range, Shimano drivetrains are still better than the SX or NX versions from Sram. Seen in this light, the Specialized Chisel Comp fully is not an equipment firework, but it holds up well.

In the price range around 3000 €, a full-suspension bike naturally competes with a hardtail. Bikes like the Radon Jealous AL or the Specialized Chisel Hardtail are not only cheaper but also lighter and better equipped. However, if you don’t want to give up the comfort of a full-suspension bike, you will find what you’re looking for with Canyon’s Lux Trail in the price range just over 3000 €. However, this bike is only available with a carbon frame.
